July 13 - 19, 2008 | Climate Quest - University of Washington
Climate Quest is a 7-day high school course that combines environmental science with video production. A new partnership between the UW Program on Climate Change and the Burke Museum, Climate Quest will guide students through presentations, hands-on activities, and a field trip to learn the science behind climate change, potential impacts on the Pacific Northwest, and efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions. Course instructors include UW faculty, staff, and graduate students. As a culminating project, teams of students will produce 5-minute videos on climate change. Climate Quest students will receive one UW college credit.

Experience the excitement of university life – from dorm to classroom – during this motivating and exciting pre-college program. Ambitious high school students complete a real college course, gain valuable “success in college” information, and form extraordinary social connections that come with life in a residence hall. College Quest will bridge the gap between high school and college and put students on a path to personal, educational and career success.

Now - October 2008 | Increase your Green - School Competition
DoSomething.org is calling on students to green their schools. Students who make the biggest effort to reduce their school's carbon footprint this fall could win up to $1,500 to further their efforts. Schools are eligible for a first-place prize of a $1,5000 grant, banner, plaque, and eco-friendly gift bags (up to thirty), and a chance to be visited by the biotour bus! Three $500 second place prizes will also be awarded.

October 8, 2008 | International Walk to School Day
Join kids and families around to globe to walk and bicycle to school in October. Walking to school is a great way for students to reduce their carbon footprint and promote good health, so please consider registering your school! By registering, Walk to School organizers have access to a variety of downloadable materials, including certificates, templates for printing stickers, and a frequent walker punch card. Registrants can also subscribe to receive a weekly Walk to School e-newsletter with tips and resources on hosting a Walk to School event.

December 5 - 7, 2008 | Forecast Earth Summit
The Weather Channel's Forecast Earth invites all high school students to attempt to be part of the Forecast Earth Summit, December 5-7 in Washington, D.C. Students - freshmen, sophomores, and juniors during the 2008-09 school year are eligible - must submit a 200-word essay outlining what they are personally doing to combat climate change. Entry forms can be submitted online until October 19. From the entries, 20 students will be selected to take part in TWC's Forecast Earth Summit. The three-day event will focus on promoting environmental literacy among the high school audience and will afford the selected students the opportunity to engage in-depth with environmental leaders, enthusiasts, and scientists.
